Revive Café Wins Best Community Project at HT Awards 2025!
We’re thrilled to share that Revive Café, one of our Talk Community Hubs, has officially been named Best Community Project 2025 at the Hereford Times Community Awards!
Revive Café was nominated without even knowing it, and they’ve taken home the honour in a ceremony held at Hereford Cathedral, celebrating the county’s unsung heroes and community champions.
Revive is more than just a café, it’s a warm, welcoming space where people come together, share stories, and support one another. This award recognises the incredible impact they’ve had on the local community.
Congratulations to everyone involved at Revive Café – you’ve made Herefordshire proud!
Think Pharmacy First (don’t wait for minor health concerns to get worse)
Herefordshire residents can access an expanded healthcare service at a number of community pharmacies as part of NHS Pharmacy First service.
Pharmacies are often open for long hours and accessible to everybody. Highly trained pharmacists can now assess, treat, and where appropriate, supply NHS medicines for a range of medical conditions. Advice from the pharmacist can be offered in a private consultation room and there’s often no need to book an appointment. You can telephone the pharmacy in advance before you visit if you want to and you may not need to visit the pharmacy if you can be helped over the telephone.
To find out more, visit the Pharmacy First page on the Talk Community Directory.
The Pharmacy First Service also offers Blood pressure checks (for people over 40 years – it is important to Know your Numbers!) and Contraception services, including Emergency Contraception.
Find out more on the NHS Website, or ask in any pharmacy.
Sign up to stay alert this winter
As we head into the colder months it may be good to know that community organisations can sign up to Weather Health Alerts. The alerts are sent by email and provide an early warning when adverse temperatures are likely to impact the health and wellbeing of the population.
If you would like to receive the alerts you can register your interest with the UK Health Security Agency, via this online form.
Help with Energy Costs for Households Using Medical Equipment
Do you or someone in your household rely on medical equipment that uses a lot of energy? You may be eligible for a one-off £250 payment to help with heating and energy bills this winter.
This support is available to households with individuals, children or adults, who depend on high energy-consuming medical devices such as:
- Ventilators
- Dialysis machines
- Oxygen concentrators
- Feeding pumps
These devices are essential for health and wellbeing, but they can significantly increase energy bills, especially during colder months. The funding aims to reduce the risk of fuel poverty for those most affected by the cost of living.
To check eligibility and apply, please visit the Herefordshire Council website.
Prevent Awareness Training
A new programme of Prevent Awareness training is on offer, commencing on 12th November 2025. The quarterly training is a mixture of face to face and virtual sessions, with each session lasting 2 hours.
The course will cover an introduction to Prevent, how it applies to your role and understanding risk in your local area. Attendees will learn to identify emotions and behaviours which might make someone susceptible to radicalisation and what to do when you have a concern. For more information about the training, or to book your place please visit the Herefordshire Safeguarding Board website
Community Connectors – launching Monday!
We’re excited to announce that Community Connectors will be ready to receive referrals from Monday 10th November!
Community Connectors are local champions who listen, build trust, and walk alongside people to help them reach their personal goals. They know their communities inside out – from local groups and activities to wellbeing services -and they’re here to help people feel more connected and supported.
Whether you’re a professional working with residents or someone looking for help in your area, our Connectors are ready to support. If you know someone who’s feeling isolated, lonely, or unsure where to turn, a Connector can help them find the right local opportunities, and even accompany them to a group to help build confidence.
For more information please visit the Talk Community Directory. Please note, referrals will not be received until Monday 10th November.
